Special Events
The Community Services Department hosts a variety of special events for the Sierra Madre community throughout the year. Annual Events include: Huck Finn Fishing Derby and Campout, Mount Wilson Trail Race, Fourth of July Parade, Oktoberfest Golf and Tennis Tournament, and Halloween Happenings. Huck Finn Fishing Derby and Campout
Date: Friday through Sunday in late March or Early April
The Huck Finn Fishing Derby and Campout are held every year in late March or early April. This is a great opportunity for outdoor family fun! Families can spend a night under the stars and roast marshmallows at the campout, and then wake up the next morning to catch a rainbow trout! The Campout portion of the event is held on Friday, the Fishing derby follows on Saturday morning, and family fishing takes place Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday. Campout registration begin in February and pre-registration is required. Registration for the fishing derby and family fishing is done the day of the event. Mount Wilson Trail Race

The Mount Wilson Trail Race (MWTR) is the second oldest trail race in California and is held the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. Every year 300 runners challenge the Mount Wilson Trail and race 8.6 miles on a course that features an elevation gain of 2,100 feet. This challenging race sells out every year, so be sure to register early! Registration information can be found at www.mountwilsontrailrace.com in January. In addition to the main race, the MWTR features a pasta feed dinner the night before, Kids' Art Show and Race, beer garden, vendor booths and hundreds of race enthusiasts cheering our runners.
Fourth of July Parade
Date: July 4th unless it falls on a Sunday
Every 4th of July come to Sierra Madre and celebrate America's birthday in style! The City of Sierra Madre hosts a parade along Sierra Madre Boulevard that has been an annual tradition for generations. Prop a chair or two along the Boulevard to enjoy the small town charm of the parade entries! After the parade you can continue the fun at Memorial Park and enjoy a festive band, beer garden, games and food!
Concerts in the Park
Join the City of Sierra Madre this summer for the Concerts in the Park, beginning Sunday, July 8, 2012 and occurring every Sunday through August 26, 2012. The concerts are FREE thanks to the support of Athens Services and the Sierra Madre Issei Memorial Foundation, along with numerous community hosts.
Oktoberfest Golf and Tennis Tournament
Date: Saturday in early October
The Oktoberfest Golf and Tennis Tournament is a fundraiser that targets specific fundraising goals. The tournament is held every October and features a lunch reception. If you have an interest in golf or tennis then this is the perfect competition for you. Golf is played at the Eaton Canyon Golf Course and is played in a best ball format, perfect for beginners and seasoned veterans! The tennis tournament is played in a round robin format with rotating partners. If golf or tennis isn't your cup of tea, you can always partake in the Oktoberfest inspired lunch reception which features a silent auction and beer garden.
Halloween Happenings
Date: October 31 unless Halloween falls on a weekend
The City of Sierra Madre offers many activities during the Halloween season. The fun kicks off with the Downtown Window Painting contest which is typically held the weekend before Halloween. Contestants have the opportunity to decorate the windows of downtown Sierra Madre businesses with their most creative Halloween designs. Painting takes place over Friday and Saturday with awards presented in Kersting Court Saturday afternoon. Pre-registration for window painting is required.
On Halloween, youth enjoy trick-or-treating in Downtown Sierra Madre as businesses owners open their doors for the little ghost and goblins! Be sure to stick around Kersting Court as that is the start of the Halloween parade along Sierra Madre Blvd. The parade is lead by the Sierra Madre Fire Department to the Memorial Park Bandshell, where the costume contest is held. Prizes are awarded to the top three costumes in each of the age categories.
