CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAMS
In an emergency, dial 911. Call the Sierra Madre Police Department at
(626) 355-1414 to report a problem, ask a question or help organizing a
Business & Neighborhood Watch program.
Burglary & Theft Prevention:
- Organize or join a neighborhood watch program.
- Use deadbolts and locking devices.
- Use alarm devices and make certain these devices
are in working order.
- Keep your property properly maintained, such as trimming
trees and bushes.
- When leaving town, consider leaving an interior lamp or radio
on to make your property appear lived in.
- Keep valuables out of sight and have an accurate inventory
of important items.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
Child Abuse and Child Safety:
Child abuse can include non-accidental
physical injury, sexual abuse, willful cruelty, corporal punishment (physical
punishment), and neglect. In addition to professionals required to report suspected
abuse, community members also have an important role in protecting children. If you have information regarding
suspected child abuse, please call the Los Angeles County Department of Children
and Family Services, local office or hotline, (800) 540-4000.
California's Megan's Law provides the public with certain information
on the whereabouts of sex offenders so that members of our local
communities may protect themselves and their children.

STATION TOUR & RIDE ALONG INFORMATION
We have a unique community program that affords local youth, service groups and
schools the opportunity to tour the police facility, from the temporary holding
facility, or jail, to the inside of a police vehicle. Not only are young people
given a tour of the department, but also numerous safety topics are shared, including
911 emergency use, stranger awareness and similar topics.
Sierra Madre residents 18 years of age or older may request a several-hour ride-along
with a patrol officer. Citizens are provided the unique chance to see their police
on patrol. Valid picture identification is required. All ride-along participants
must sign a waiver form; those 17 and younger will be required to have a parent
or guardian signature.
EMPLOYEE COMMENDATIONS & PERSONNEL COMPLAINTS
Police Employee Commendations
Sierra Madre Police Department employees are committed to providing quality service.
When you receive service from a Department employee that you feel is worthy of
a commendation, take a moment to let us know. Please include all the information
you can remember, such as the employee's name, the date, time, and circumstance
of the service. Employees and their supervisors will be notified of your commendation.
A copy of the commendation will also be placed in the employee's personnel
file.
PERSONNEL COMPLAINTS
Who may file a complaint?
Anyone who is directly involved in or who witnesses an incident may file a complaint.
You do not have to be a legal resident or citizen of the United States to file
a complaint. In the case of a juvenile, it is the Department's policy to
notify the parents or guardian of the juvenile when a complaint is received.
How to file a complaint:
To file a complaint, you may contact or submit a Citizen Comment form to the on-duty
watch commander, officer-in-charge, lieutenant or the chief of police. To ensure
a complete investigation, the Citizen Comment form must include as much information
as possible to support the complaint. All complaints against Department employees
are confidential.
In most situations, it will be necessary to speak to the complainant in person.
Should the complainant feel uncomfortable for any reason or find it inconvenient
to meet at the Police Station, an alternative location may be arranged. |
