Oktoberfest Golf and Tennis Tournament 2013

On Saturday, October 19, 2013, take part in the 9th annual Oktoberfest Golf and Tennis Tournament which raises funds for the City of Sierra Madre’s Youth Activity Center (YAC) run by the YMCA. The YAC is a place for teens to hang out and socialize; through the YMCA it offers a wide variety of activities and amenities for immediate members, such as an educational speaker series, homework tutors, visual art classes, gardening, leadership roles with the elementary YMCA program and volunteer opportunities.

You can participate in this great event by playing a round of golf, participating in the tennis tournament, or attending the lunch reception.

Date: Saturday, October 19, 2013

Golf Tournament:
Golf will be played as a foursome, best-ball format at the recently refurbished, nine-hole Eaton Canyon Golf Course, 1150 Sierra Madre Villa Avenue in Pasadena. The golf tournament begins at 8:00am, but tee times are staggered. However, participants are encouraged to arrive early to practice their swing at the driving range—all participants receive a free bucket of balls — and take an opportunity to test their skill at our putting contest.

During the tournament show off your skill or try your luck at one of the many contests: Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive, and new this year, three holes with Hole-in-One mega prize opportunities. Hole-in-One prizes up for grabs include a car, cash, or dream vacation!

Golfers can sign up as a team of four or as an individual. Teams will be notified of their tee time one week prior to the event. A light breakfast will be provided the morning of the tournament. Trophies are awarded to the first place team, who is also recognized on the perpetual Oktoberfest golf trophy.

Fees: (includes lunch, goodie bag, and commemorative glass) Team - $304, Individual - $84

Tennis Tournament:
The tennis tournament is played as round robin doubles with rotating co-ed partners. New this year, the tournament will be split into two ability divisions: beginning and intermediate. Another change is the relocation of the tournament to the Memorial Park and Sierra Vista Park tennis courts in Sierra Madre.

The tennis tournament will begin at 8:00am. Prior to the tournament, all participants will meet at the Memorial Park tennis court to check-in, enjoy a light breakfast, and then test their skills in the serving contest. Racquets Rackets is providing a variety of great prizes for contest winners.

Trophies are awards to the top two competitors in each division, and the winner of each division will be recognized on the perpetual Oktoberfest tennis trophy.

Fees: $62.00 (includes lunch, goodie bag, and commemorative glass)

Lunch Reception:
At 12:00pm, or following the tournaments, is a reception at the Hart Park House Senior Center located at 222 W. Sierra Madre Blvd. An Oktoberfest-style lunch consisting of bratwursts, chicken, a variety of salads, and pretzels will be provided by Matt Denny’s Ale House Restaurant. Enjoy the beers on tap through the commemorative glass, which each participant receives in their goodie bag. Purchase raffle tickets to win one of many great prizes in the Opportunity Raffle. Watch the Tournaments Award Ceremony.

If you are unable to attend the Oktoberfest event, you can still help out! The Oktoberfest Committee is looking for donations of in-kind products or services that can be used in the Opportunity Raffle, or 100 items to be included in the participant goodie bag. You also have the opportunity to sponsor a Tee or Court Sign at $125 (includes one registration in the tennis or golf tournament), or go big and sponsor at a greater level.
