This week the City was notified by the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito & Vector Control District that a dead crow testing positive for West Nile Virus (WNV) was found in Sierra Madre. However, the District emphasized that does not mean the virus was contracted in Sierra Madre.
Join us for the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the beautiful new Rotary Children’s Library on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 6 p.m. in the Sierra Madre Public Library.
Improvements include the removal of an emergency exit, replacement of windows, bookshelves, furniture, paint and carpet. The layout of the room has been changed to create a preschool zone, study zone and computer /technology zone. Funding for the updates came from private donations raised during a year-long fundraising drive. The volunteer Sierra Madre 4th of July Committee is excited to announce that the 2012 Fourth of July Parade Grand Marshal will be Nel and Bob Solt, the Wistaria Vine Owners. “The Grand Marshal is a person’s whose efforts over a long period of time has been beneficial to the community of Sierra Madre. The title of Grand Marshal is intended to honor a person’s volume of work, dedication and overall enhancements to our city.”
City Council Reorganization
The Sierra Madre City Council held its annual Reorganization meeting on Tuesday, April 24, 2012. The City Council unanimously elected former Mayor Pro Tem Josh Moran as Mayor, and elected Council Member Nancy Walsh to the position of Mayor Pro Tem. Newly elected Council Members John Capoccia, John Harabedian, and Chris Koerber were sworn into office, as well as Richard Mays as City Treasurer and Nancy Shollenberger as City Clerk.
Waterworks Aquatics to Open a New Location at the Sierra Madre Aquatic Center

The City is excited to announce a new partnership at the Sierra Madre Aquatic Center. Aquatic services will be operated by Waterworks Aquatics beginning June 9, 2012. Waterworks Aquatics has extensive experience providing quality aquatic programs. Aquatic programs will be expanded to encompass 12 months a year, offering a full schedule of swim classes, water aerobics, recreation swim, swim team and much more!
